PROJECTS
Throughout the summer, Youth Navigators are engaged in numerous activities that range from professional training, peer-to-peer mentorship and community engagement. The following are a list of these activities.

LEADERSHIP
DEVELOPMENT
Youth leaders develop the skills and capacity needed to be leaders in their communities. This is done through relationship building as they work closely with Cultural Navigators from the REACH Immigrant and Refugee Initiative. Community leadership is also developed through relationship building with those beyond their community including groups like the Edmonton Police Service and non-profit organizations in Edmonton.
PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT
Working alongside program leaders, youth leaders reflect on and select the professional skills they want to improve upon during the summer. Experts in the community are invited to share their knowledge and support youth in building professional skills. Professional development presentations include:
- Public Speaking and Effective Messaging
- Research
- Facilitation & Presentations
- Mental Health and Mentorship
PEER-TO-PEER
MENTORSHIP
Working alongside cultural navigators from the REACH Immigrant and Refugee Initiative, youth leaders are connected with newcomer youth to provide support and peer to peer mentorship.
By developing these relationships, the community develops stronger bonds across generations.
COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT
The Youth Navigator Program is part of the REACH Immigrant and Refugee Initiative (RIRI). RIRI has been engaging with Ethnocultural communities in Edmonton by connecting them to resources and services to support them with the issues that matter most to them.
Support culturally appropriate community building through the natural support model with settlement and broker service systems.
